The town of Pazin consists of 18 settlements and covers an inland area of Istria of about 135 square kilometres. It is the largest city in the county and in addition to being the administrative seat of the Istrian County, it is also the centre of cultural, economic and sports life of central Istria. It is in the centre of the Istrian peninsula and the old town is located on attractive steep cliffs. The river Pazinčica is located below the cliffs and forms a special geological phenomenon Pazin Cave.
